Then jump up and read Jonas Polsky’s (great) explanation of why comedians care about the unauthorized taping of their shows. The link above is Patton Oswald’s own explanation of the event. Great set of perspectives. On the Patton vs. Babs (“did he go to far”) point, hey, I wasn’t there. He’s not apologizing and his piece does a great job of explaining why he doesn’t think he needs to. Of all of the pieces, I really found Polsky’s the most interesting. On one hand, I can see why people would want to preserve their experience. On the other, hey, lots of acts (including musical and dramatic) would, um, like you to buy a copy of the experience. And they have every right to so insist. Cool discussion.
