A tremendous point made by Matt Yglesias. (I disagree with him in only one small part, it’s not progressives who are piling on Romney today, it’s Republicans. It will be progressives doing the piling on in a few months.) Forget whether Romney was talking about his own firing of people. Although companies Bain owned or invested in fired a LOT of people in Romney’s tenure.
The fact is, as Yglesias pointed out, the health insurance market does not easily allow consumers to fire their insurance companies. And it probably never will. Great point.
PS Here’s the Atlantic’s Jim Fallows - although it may be unfair that people will take Romney’s “I like to fire people” out of context, it was also unfair that people took John Kerry’s “I voted for it before I voted against it.” (I’m not so sure I agree with the comparison.)
